Pathfinders Fund

GSK's $25 million Pathfinders Fund for Leaders in Canadian Health Science Research was established to help Canada become a world leader in research and development (R&D).

The Pathfinders Fund encourages health science research and fosters innovation in Canadian medical schools. The goals of the Pathfinders Fund are threefold:

  • Promote excellence in Canadian health science research, helping to establish Canada as a world leader in R&D.
  • Provide opportunities for attracting and retaining top Canadian researchers and scientists to conduct their important discovery work in Canada.
  • Fund research that promises to meet the healthcare needs of Canadians.

GSK has helped to establish Research Chairs at Faculties of Medicine in Canadian Universities. Over the past ten years, this partnership has allowed for the creation of 22 Chairs and Professorships.

Examples of Pathfinders Partnerships Include:

  • The GSK Chair in Virology at the University of Alberta
  • The GSK Chair in Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto
  • The GSK Professorship in Respiratory Health Care Delivery at the University of Toronto/University Health Network
  • The GSK Chair in Genetics and Genomics at the University of Toronto/Hospital for Sick Children
  • The David Grimes Chair in Diseases of Aging at the University of Ottawa
  • The GSK Chair in Gastroenterology at McMaster University
  • The GSK Professorship in Pharmacology at McGill University
  • The GSK Chair in Respiratory Medicine at Laval University
