Charitable investments in Canada

At GSK, we partner with like-minded charities and community organizations to support programs with a local and national impact.

Our charitable investments span across three key areas:

  • Health for people: We use our community investments to strengthen health and wellbeing systems and improve the health of vulnerable and marginalized people.
  • Innovators for the future: We support equitable education in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and invest to improve educational and career outcomes for those who are underrepresented in these areas.
  • Health for the planet: We support partnerships to reduce carbon emissions as well as protect and restore nature.

In Canada, our focus is on environmental sustainability, equitable STEM education, community health, emergency preparedness and local disaster relief. Through our involvement, we aim to make a positive impact on the wellbeing of communities across the country. We also encourage our employees to participate in volunteering and team-building activities with charitable organizations, including our philanthropic partner organizations, to further support our communities.

We believe that reducing our environmental impact, supporting the next generation of innovators to be diverse and inclusive, and strengthening the health of our communities is the best way to contribute to sustainable and responsible outcomes in the neighbourhoods where we live and work.

Our charitable initiatives

Plant growing in a pot

To help get ahead of disease and deliver real human health impact, we need to look broadly and deeply at the interconnections between climate, nature and health. To this end, we are proud to support an organization that works to reduce carbon emissions, from coast to coast.

Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) focused careers are fast-growing jobs in Canada and drive innovation. Unfortunately, these careers are not equally accessible to all students, and women and people of colour are underrepresented in these fields.

Through our investments, we intentionally focus on diverse and underserved populations with the aim of increasing students’ access to exciting STEM education that is culturally relevant and connected to real careers, while also building science literacy.

In alignment with our global partnership with Save the Children, we work with the Canadian chapter to support emergency preparedness for Indigenous children and their families in Canada who are at risk of natural disasters. In addition, on an ad hoc basis we provide grants to the Canadian Red Cross to help with recovery and relief efforts in response to natural disasters, providing support to communities where our employees work and live. These funds are used to provide shelter, essential items and comfort to those impacted.

We are committed to improving and promoting positive health and wellbeing. In this spirit, we are dedicated to the evolution of the hospice palliative care movement in Canada and are a long-standing supporter of the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association (CHPCA). We also provide funding to Health Partners International Canada (HPIC) to help improve access to medicine and healthcare to children and families living in vulnerable communities around the world.
